Santa Clara, Calif. - The Santa Clara University athletic department announced today that Saturday, Jan. 13 is officially "Dick Davey Argyle Sweater Night" at the Leavey Center. The Broncos take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. PT in their second West Coast Conference game of the year that night. Fans and students are encouraged to wear their best argyle or red sweater in honor of Santa Clara men's basketball head coach Dick Davey, who has been known for his great collection of sweaters during his 15-year coaching career. A lucky fan with the best Davey-style sweater will be honored prior to the game and receive a Santa Clara Broncos prize pack.
Davey is in his 15th season as head coach at Santa Clara after spending 15 seasons as an assistant coach at SCU under Carroll Williams. He has earned a 241-185 record during that time while capturing three WCC Coach of the Year awards. His teams have won three WCC titles and made three trips to the NCAA Tournament. In 2006-07, the Broncos are off to an 11-5 start after beating Saint Mary's in their WCC opener on Jan. 6. With the win over Saint Mary's Davey is now No. 2 all-time in wins in WCC history with 113, leaving him 52 behind Carroll Williams, who won 165 WCC games in 22 years as Santa Clara's head coach.
Saturday's game against Gonzaga is sold out, but fans can watch the game on Fox Sports Net or listen to the game on the Bronco Radio Network on 1220 AM KNTS.
