SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's basketball team was honored as December's recipient of the Comcast Community All-Star Award. The award was presented by Comcast's Mat Jachim, and accepting it on behalf of his team was senior Brandon Rohe, along with Director of Athletics and Recreation Dan Coonan, at the men's basketball game against Pepperdine University on January 29.
Led by Rohe, the team organized trips to the Stanford Lucille Packard Children's hospital over their Christmas break. They got to spend quality time with patients, sign autographs and talk about the game of basketball.
"It was great working with the children," said Rohe. "They have such great attitudes about their situation that it really puts things in perspective. Seeing these children makes you realize how easy we have it and how thankful we should be for everything we have."
The Broncos are currently tied for second in the West Coast Conference and take on the Saint Mary's Gaels Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:00 p.m. in Moraga, Calif.
The basketball team is also currently participating in a canned food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank.
