SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Jim Purcell, vice president for university relations at Santa Clara University, announced today that Dick Davey, former head basketball coach, will assume a new position in fund raising at SCU immediately. Davey will help raise friends and funds to support the 19 intercollegiate athletic programs at the University.

Purcell, whose fundraising team helped SCU raise $400 million, said, "I am delighted that Dick has agreed to stay on in this new role and I look forward to working closely with him to enhance SCU athletics."

Davey will report to Purcell.

SCU's Director of Athletics and Recreation, Dan Coonan, said, "There could be no better ambassador for Bronco athletics than Dick Davey. Over his thirty years of service at SCU, he has developed many friendships and supporters and I know our coaches and other athletic staff are thrilled that he will still be a part of the SCU family in this new role."

"I am very appreciative for my thirty years of coaching basketball at Santa Clara and look forward to my new role in helping Bronco athletics," Davey said

Davey started his career as an assistant coach in 1977 under Carroll Williams. After helping the Broncos to six 20-win seasons, four NIT appearances, and one NCAA Tournament appearance as an assistant, Davey became the head coach at Santa Clara prior to the 1992-93 season. As a head coach, Davey was named WCC Coach of the Year four times, while leading the Broncos to three NCAA Tournament appereances.
