SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Scott Dougherty scored 14 points to lead six players in double figures and Santa Clara defeated Pepperdine 77-55 on Monday night.

Brody Angley had 12, Joey Kaempf added 11 and Danny Pariseau, John Bryant and Sean Denison each had 10 as the Broncos (15-7, 5-2 WCC) won their fourth in five games.

Kingsley Costain scored 13 to lead the Waves (6-17, 2-5), who had their modest two-game winning streak snapped.

The Broncos, taking a page out of the Waves' playbook, hit six of their first eight 3-pointers of the second half and widened their lead to 69-43 with less than six minutes remaining to play.

Santa Clara took control of the game with an 11-0 run midway through the second half, holding the Waves scoreless for over four minutes during that span.

Pepperdine is the WCC leader with 229 3-pointers, but the Broncos were more successful from long range on their home court. Santa Clara hit a season-high 12 of 23 3-pointers while the Waves were 10-of-37.

Pepperdine attempted 16 3-pointers - of 24 total shots - in the opening period, making five. The Waves shot just under 30 percent for the half while the Broncos made over 53 percent of their attempts, including 5-of-12 from long range.

Santa Clara outscored the Waves 12-3 over the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 34-23 lead into the intermission.

During halftime, Santa Clara honored the late Nick Vanos, who played two years with the NBA Phoenix Suns before tragically dying in a plane crash in 1987. The seven-footer remains the school's all-time leader in blocked shots with 159.

The Broncos hit the road for their next game on Saturday, Feb. 3 taking on the Saint Mary's Gaels in a pivotal WCC contest. The game tips off at 4:05 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet. Both Saint Mary's and Santa Clara enter the game with a 5-2 record in the conference in a tie for second place behind Gonzaga.
