Men's Golf Improves to 15th at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

LOMPOC, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team moved up three spots to place 15th at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by UC Santa Barbara at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc. The Broncos were led by Eric Lillibridge, who carded a one-over-par 73 this afternoon and tied for 29th with a 226 total.

Santa Clara improved its final round by 22 strokes over yesterday's second round for a 296, and finished with a 913 three-round total for the top-15 finish. Michael Nicoletti carded a 74 today to finish with a 230, good for 57th place. Jonathan Edwards finished one stroke back to tie for 62nd and Jong Yoon and John Colyar tied for 66th with 232s.

"We're playing really well right now and doing the right things on the course," head coach John Kennaday said. "We're due for a really good finish at a tournament soon."

UC Davis won the competition, with a15-over 879, eight strokes ahead of Washington State. San Diego State, Cal Poly, Pacific and Denver round out the top five of the 21-team field. La Purisima is a 6,670-yard, par-72 course.

The Aggies' Louie Bishop took individual medalist honors with a one-over 77-71-69--217, besting four players who finished one stroke back: Travis Bertoni (72-75-71) and J.J. Scurich (72-73-73) of Cal Poly, New Mexico State's Brian Thornburg (69-78-71) and Gilberto Rodriguez of San Diego State (74-72-72).

The Broncos' spring season is quickly coming to a close, with only two more events on the regular season slate. Santa Clara returns to action next week at the West Coast Conference Championship in Copperopolis, April 11-12. The Broncos will conclude their regular season at the Stanford-hosted U.S. Intercollegiate April 16-17.
