Men's Golf Places Sixth at Pacific Intercollegiate

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team placed sixth at the Pacific Intercollegiate, hosted by the Tigers at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. Freshman Kellen Moss led the Broncos with his 19th-place finish.

Santa Clara carded a 43-over-par 306-290-311--907 over the three-round tournament, which was played on a par-72, 7,000-yard layout. UC Riverside was the only squad to collectively shoot under par, finishing one-under for the team title. Cal Poly was 10 strokes back for second place, and host Pacific earned third with its 13-over performance.

Moss went 76-74-76--226 to lead the Broncos individually. John Colyar was one stroke behind is teammate, to tie for 22nd. The rest of the squad quickly followed, as Michael Nicoletti carded a 228, Eric Lillibridge a 230 and Jong Yoon a 234.

Three Broncos also competed as individuals. Jonathan Edwards tied for 12th with a six-over 222, Chris DeMartini tied for 46th with a 234, and Matt Klenz tied for 51st with a 236.

Cal Poly's Travis Bertoni won the individual competition, after carding a 69-67-68--204, 12 strokes under par. He won by two strokes over Greg Wells of UC Santa Barbara. UC Riverside's Eric Riehle and Brendan Steele were the only other competitors to finish below par for third and four place, respectively.

Santa Clara returns to action for a one-day event next Monday. The program will host the Bronco Cup Scramble, to be held at Spring Valley Country Club in Milpitas.
