Men's Golf Remains in Third at WCC Championship

COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team remains in third place after the second round of the West Coast Conference Championship, completed this morning after being suspended last night due to darkness. The event is being hosted at Saddle Creek Golf Club in Copperopolis, a par-72 layout playing 6,826 yards.

The third and final round of the WCC Championship is currently underway.

Santa Clara totaled a 297 team score for a two-round 588, just 12 strokes over par. Pepperdine extended its lead with a 13-under second round and has a 559 total to lead the eight-team field. Saint Mary's is in second at 568. San Francisco follows the Broncos with a 606, with San Diego and Portland right behind the Dons, as both are tied for fifth at 609. Gonzaga (622) and Loyola Marymount (623) round out the field.

Junior Eric Lillibridge will head into the final round looking to post a top-10 finish, as he is currently leading the Broncos with his tie for eighth place. He is in at one-over 145 after carding rounds of 71 and 74. Junior Michael Nicoletti is just two strokes behind Lillibridge and is tied for 11th at 75-72--147. Senior Jonathan Edwards is also in the top 15, with a 75-73--148, good for a share of 13th. Sophomore Jong Yoon (70-79--149, t 16th) and senior John Colyar (75-78--153, t 21st) round out the Bronco scorecard.

Pepperdine's Brian O'Flaherty and Saint Mary's Joe Lanza continued to match efforts, as both lead the individual competition with matching 68-70--138s, six strokes under par. They are among a group of seven golfers that and under-par two-round totals.
