COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team is currently in third place after the first round of the West Coast Conference Championship, hosted at Saddle Creek Golf Club in Copperopolis, and is a par-72 layout playing 6,826 yards. The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed Tuesday morning.

Santa Clara carded a team round of 291, just three strokes over par, and only seven strokes outside of a top finish. Pepperdine tallied a four-under 284 to lead the eight-team field and Saint Mary's is in second, after carding a 285. San Francisco (305), Portland (306) and San Diego (307) follow closely behind to round out the top six. Loyola Marymount is in seventh at 311 and Gonzaga rounds out the field with a 316.

Sophomore Jong Yoon led the Broncos with a 70, two strokes under par to tie for fourth place. Eric Lillibridge is tied for sixth with a 71. The remaining three Broncos are tied for 12th after all carded 75s in the first round: Michael Nicoletti, Jonathan Edwards and John Colyar.

Pepperdine's Brian O'Flaherty and Saint Mary's Joe Lanza each carded 68s to lead the individual competition. Ten golfers posted even-par or better scores in the first round.

The third and final round of the WCC Championship will take place Tuesday after the completion of the second round.
