SANTA CLARA, Calif.--The Santa Clara University's men's golf team will appear in their first tournament of the season this Friday and Saturday, when they take part in the Gold Rush California Collegiate golf Showcase at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club in Beaumont. Twenty-nine teams from the golden state will take part in this inaugural 54-hole, stroke play format tournament, featuring two of the regions toughest courses.

In addition to the 29 schools represented with men's teams will be the women's 2004 defending national champion, UCLA.

This year's squad returns eight players from the 2003-2004 season. Sophomore Jong Yoon finished 2004 with an average of 75.7 highlighted by a tie for second place in the SCU Invitational. Junior Michael Nicoletti looks to improve upon his 76.3 average and tie for third place in the SCU Spring Shootout while senior Matt Klenz finished 2004 with a 75.7 average.

The Broncos will compete in a total of six fall tournaments highlighted by the Bronco Cup Scramble Oct. 4, SCU Invitational Oct. 25-26 and Hawaii Invitational Nov 1-3.

The squad looks to begin their 2004-2005 season with a strong showing in southern California before returning to the links Sept. 27 and 28, as they take part in the Pacific Intercollegiate in Stockton.
