WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The Santa Clara men's golf team wrapped up their first tournament of the spring on Friday with the final round of the UH Hilo Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Village Golf Club. With their improved play in the final round, the Broncos finished in 16th place with a combined score of 856. Senior Jong Yoon finished tied for 30th individually.

In Friday's final round, the Broncos were led by sophomore Jonathan Keane and senior Jong Yoon. Keane had his best round of the tournament Friday, shooting an even-par 70 to finish with a combined score of 216, the second best score on the team. Senior Jong Yoon also had a strong finish, wrapping up play with a final round of 71, and a combined score of 207.

After an opening round in which the Broncos found themselves tied for 10th, things started to unravel.

"You know it kind of turned into a putting contest out there," said head coach Rob Miller. "The course wasn't terribly difficult. It really just came down to how well the guys handled their putters."

Mike Miller finished with a final round of 73 and Garrett Logan finished with a 75, placing both in a tie for 74th overall with a combined score of 218. Freshman Jimmy Cacho shot a 76 and finished 76th.

Overall, senior Jong Yoon continues to be a solid performer for the Broncos.

"He is just so consistent, and he performed very well against a top quality field," Miller said. Yoon, who suffered a bad break on the fourth hole which cost him a stroke after his ball skipped out of bounds, battled back and finished with a 71.

"The guys had a great trip," Miller said. "The weather has been great, and these tournaments are give them good experience. The golf was a little disappointing, but we're really gearing up toward the WCC Championships. Our goal is to be playing our best golf by the end of the season."

The Broncos have nearly two weeks before their next competition, the Anteater Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine, which begins Monday, February 26th.
