LOMPOC, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf team finished up their 2006-07 season Tuesday with the final round of the WCC Championships at the La Lurisima Golf Course in Lompoc, Calif. After beginning the day in sixth place, the Broncos had a shot at sneaking into second place, but a couple of unfortunate holes left them tied for fifth.

"Overall it wasn't too bad. We were pretty consistent," said head coach Rob Miller. "We lost a few strokes on the back nine that would have really helped us. I think we hit a few tough stretchces out there. It was too bad, because we played really well yesterday afternoon and weren't able to bring that performance back today. We were competitive out there though."

Senior Jong Yoon led the Broncos with an eighth place finish and a combined score of 224 after a final round 76. Eric Lillibridge also wrapped up his collegiate career in strong fashion, shooting a team-best final round of 74 and finishing tied for 17th with a combined score of 230, despite injuring himself midway through Monday's second round.

All tied up were junior Blair Myers and freshman Jimmy Cacho who finished in 22nd place after both shooting final rounds of 76, and finishing with combined scores of 232. Tim Lynch rounded out the Broncos contingent, with a combined score of 235 after a final round 81.

For Yoon and Lillibridge it was the end of solid collegiate careers at Santa Clara.

"Jong has been our most consistent player and is a real gentleman out there on the course," Miller said. "And Eric [Lillibridge] went out there today and led our team with one hand. It was really nice to see him post two good rounds."

Looking ahead to next year, Miller is looking forward toward improving on the progress the team has made in 2006-07.

"Jimmy Cacho turned things around in his second and third rounds, Alex Bon and Scott Travers got some great experience this year," said Miller. "I'm looking forward to seeing the young guys get even better. With the addition of Tyler [Itchikawa] we should be very competitive."
