Sept. 14, 2006

Long Beach, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's golf team got their season underway Thursday at the Del Walker Intercolligiate from the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif. After the first two rounds, the Broncos are tied for 11th place, behind conference opponents St. Mary's (leaders) and San Diego (T-3rd), and cross-town rival San Jose State (8th).

The Broncos didn't get off to the start they might have liked, but in the first round, Blair Myers led the Broncos with a 70 (-1). After bogeys on holes 2 and 3, Myers had a string of 14 consecutive holes without a bogey before finally giving way on the 18th to finish with a 70 (-1), tied for 8th place on the leaderboard after the first round.

In the afternoon round, Garrett Logan picked up where Myers left off, and after turning in a first round score of 74 (+3), hovered near even par for almost the entire round, with a birdie on 5, a bogey on 13, and a a birdie on the 18th to finish the round at -1, good for 19th place for the tournament.

Other notable results included Kellen Moss, who turned in a first round of 74 (+3), and was at +5 heading to the 18th in the final round. Moss had a spectacular eagle effort on the par 5 18th to finish with another 74 (+3).

Tomorrow, Santa Clara will be represented in the first five groups off the tee beginning at 7:10a.m. as final round of the Del Walker Intercollegiate gets underway.
