Fresno, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's tennis headed east to the Bulldog Classic this weekend in Fresno. Going into the tournament, Brian Brogan, Bobby Rasmussen and Tommy Hicks were put into the Flight "A" singles bracket, while Jay Wong, Joe Galbraith, Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong and Aneal Vallurupalli were slotted into Flight "B". Wong was given the No. 1 seed in Flight "B" after his tournament win last weekend. In doubles, Brogan and Wong teamed up in Flight "A" and the teams of Hirakawa-Wong and Vallurupalli and Rasmussen and Hicks were in Flight "B".
In Flight "A", Brogan, Hicks and Rasmussen all fell in the first round, with Rasmussen pushing Matt Baca to three tough sets before losing. Wong kept up his strong play in Flight "B" as he blew past Rob Foy of Cal Poly in straight sets 6-1; 6-2. However, Galbraith, Hirakawa-Wong and Vallurupalli all bowed out.
The doubles teams won two out of three matches in the tournament. Kevin McQuaid and Blane Shields were given the weekend off to recover from playing two tournaments last week.
