CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women's golf team finished tied for 15th place at the 2009 Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State University. The Broncos were led by sophomore Miki Ueoka and junior Jamie Nonaka.

"The team played really well today, moving ahead of another team ranked higher than us, which will improve our ranking," said head coach Polly Schulze. "I am very proud of how our ladies bounced back from such a tough day yesterday firing a solid 310 today. This gives us great momentum going into our next event this coming week in Fresno. I believe that our team will carry a lot of confidence with them. We look forward to seeing what we can do in Fresno."

Ueoka tied for 28th place with a final score of 233. She shot her best round of the tournament - 77 - on Day 1 and followed with back-to-back outings of 78. Nonaka tied for 55th place with a score of 241. She had a solid third round performance of 78. Yet, the best low round for Santa Clara came from junior Erin Sullivan, who shot a 74 on Day 3. Sullivan tied for 60th place.

Local rivals San Jose State won the team title with a score of 900. UC Irvine was six strokes behind (906) for second place and West Coast Conference foe San Francisco rounded out the top three with a 914.

Individually, Hillary Packard took first place at two-over page 218. She shot a 68 in the first round and followed with rounds of 77 and 73, respectively.

The Broncos return to action on Feb. 23-24 at the 2009 Fresno State Invitational. The two-day event will be held at Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
