Women's Golf Continues Play at Fresno State

Feb. 20, 2009

The Santa Clara women's golf team continues spring play at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic on Feb. 23-24 at the Copper River Country Club in Fresno. Live scoring is available via Golfstat.com.

The Copper River Country Club is spread out over 6,262 yards and boasts a par of 72. The Broncos will compete against 12 other teams including West Coast Conference rivals San Francisco and Gonzaga. It will be a 54-hole tournament over the course of two days. They will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The Broncos hope to build upon their tied for 15th place finish last weekend at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational in Chula Vista.

"I'm very happy with our last day in San Diego where we fired a solid 310," said head coach Polly Schulze. "This gives us great momentum going into our next event this coming week in Fresno. I believe that our team will carry a lot of confidence with them. We look forward to seeing what we can do in Fresno."

Sophomore Miki Ueoka will be a heavy favorite to take the individual title this weekend. The sophomore from Hawaii has cracked the top-10 four times this year including her first collegiate title win up at The Boise State Invitational on Oct. 13-14.

The Broncos hope to improve upon their 12th place finish in this tournament last season, which included a tied for sixth finish by Ueoka.
