TEMPE, Ariz. - Santa Clara sophomore Miki Ueoka finished one-over par on Friday in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional at ASU's Karsten Golf Course. The Lihue, Hawaii native shot a round of 72 on day one and 73 on day two.

"Miki battled hard today," said head coach Polly Schulze. "She made some great up and down saves, and rolled in some great birdie putts for her 73. I am so proud of the way she never gave up and kept herself in the race. At the end of the day, she will probably be within 4 to 5 shots of qualifying for Nationals."

Arizona State's Carolota Ciganda took over the individual lead from USC's Belen Mozo, who is now tied for second with Jane Chin of UC Irvine. Ciganda shot four-under part 68 and is currently nine-under 135. Mozo and Chin are eight-under 136.

Arizona State held onto its first place standing at 20-under par 556. USC moved up to second place at four-under 572 and UC Irvine climbed to No. 3 at three-under 573.

Ueoka will tee off at 7 a.m. in the final round of the NCAA West Regional on Saturday, May 8.
