• Santa Clara starts a 10-game homestand against CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday.  They will play those 10 games over a nine day span.  
• The Broncos have a slashline of .300/.393/.426 with 100 runs scored on 24 doubles, one triple, and 13 home runs.
• The 13 home runs hit last season is five more than they hit all last season.  It is the most home runs in a season since hitting 19 in 2016.  
• The Broncos have scored 99 runs and given up 97.    
• Ashley Trierweiler leads the team in hitting with a .500 batting average, a .630 on-base percentage and a .833 slugging percentage.  She also leads the team in hits (27), doubles (6), runs (22), home runs (4), walks (16), and stolen bases (7).
• In the circle, Santa Clara has a 4.24 ERA.  
• Sage Hager leads the team with a 3.44 ERA and four wins.  

Weekend of March 3-4 - Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament

• Santa Clara finished with a 2-2 record playing two games each on Friday and Saturday.
• Sage Hager won two games in the tournament, both coming on Saturday against St. Bonaventure and Niagara.

Weekend of Feb. 24-26 - Silicon Valley Classic I Tournament co-hosted by Santa Clara & San José State

• Broncos went 3-2 in the tournament, winning the middle three games bookended by losses in the tournament opener and finale.   
• Redshirt senior was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week after belting two home runs, including a grand slam, and driving in 10 runs during the tournament. 

Home Opener (Feb. 22) vs No. 11 Stanford

• Broncos lost 4-1 to No. 11 in the midweek home opener. 
• SCU outhit the Cardinal 6-5 but a three-run sixth proved to be the difference in the game.
• Trio of pitchers - Sage Hager, Regan Dias and Hazyl Gray - combined to allow two earned runs over seven frames.  

Weekend of Feb. 17-19 - Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament hosted by UTEP

• Santa Clara participated in the inaugural Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament hosted by UTEP and finished with a 3-2 record. 
• As a team, the Broncos posted a slashline of .348/.434/.475 and scored 40 runs during the tournament.  
• Ashley Trierweiler, Morgan Salmon and Hazyl Gray were named to the all-tournament team.  

Season Opening Weekend (Feb. 10-12) - NorCal Kickoff co-hosted by Sacramento State & UC Davis

• Santa Clara opened the season at the NorCal Kickoff for the second-straight season.  The Broncos finished 0-4 in the tournament co-hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State. 
• In the tournament, freshman Hazyl Gray made a strong debut allowing just one earned one and held the opponents to a .171 batting average over 10 innings.  Cameron McGinnis hit .364 with all four of her hits going for extra-bases including a solo home run.   

WCC Preseason Poll / Coaching Staff

• SCU, under fourth-year head coach Gina Carbonatto, enters the season picked to finish fourth in the West Coast Conference as voted on by the six conference head coaches. 
• Last season, the Broncos finished third with a 7-8 conference record, the second highest conference victory total since 2006.  The 21-30 overall record was the highest win total since also the 2006 campaign when they went 24-34.
  • Carbonatto has served as the assistant coach for Great Britain's Under-22 women's softball team since 2018.
  • Last summer Carbonatto coached Great Britain's U-22 that competed in the European Under-22 Women's Fastpitch Championship in Kunovice, Czech Republic.
  • Bronco players Cameron McGinnis and Morgan Salmon were selected to play on Great Britain U-22 team earning two of the 13 roster spots.
• On Carbonatto's SCU staff are pitching coach Jen Deering, who is also in her fourth season, hitting coach Kristi Villar who joined the Broncos from South Dakota State last July and graduate assistant Montana Dixon in her second season.  
• For the upcoming season, Carbonatto will be the third base coach and Deering the first base coach.

2023 Roster

• The 21 player roster has 14 returnees including the top six hitters (by batting average) and top three pitchers.
• The 14 returnees account for 311 of the 341 hits and 20 of the 21 wins in 2022.
• Seven newcomers, all from the prep ranks, dot the roster.
• All but one player hails from California.  The lone out of stater, Emma Bickford, is from Sammamish, Washington.
