LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Santa Clara softball player Ashley Trierweiler was named All-American for the second-straight day, this time by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) as a third-team selection.
Trierweiler is the first NFCA All-American in program history, a day after being recognized with second-team All-American honors by D1Softball.
Established in 1983, the NFCA is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play comprised of over 6,700 members from all 50 states and several international countries. The All-American teams were voted by the Association's Division I All-America Committee.
Two weeks ago, NFCA named Trierweiler to its first-team All-West Region squad where NFCA member head coaches from each of the 10 regions nominated student-athletes and voted for the teams allowing her to become eligible for All-American consideration.
This latest All-American honor follows a bevy of recognition for the Bronco senior this month that includes being named first-team All-West Coast Conference, NFCA Division I first-team All-Pacific Region and D1Softball second-team All-American.
This season, Trierweiler finished second nationally amongst Division I players in batting average at .486 and third with an .584 on-base percentage.
She led the WCC in both of those categories along with runs (50), hits (71), doubles (14), walks (34) and total bases (108) in all games to help lift the Broncos to their first back-to-back 20 win seasons since 2005 and 2006. Trierweiler started in all 49 games at centerfield and had a 21-game hit streak as well as a 37-game on-base streak.
The Belmont, Calif. native holds the WCC career records with the highest career (.440) and single season batting average.
