Softball Falls in Series Finale to BYU on Saturday

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The BYU hitting and pitching proved too much in the Cougars 8-0 run-rule win over Santa Clara softball (18-17, 0-3 WCC) in the West Coast Conference opening series finale on Saturday.

Kaysen Korth and Ailana Agbayani combined for a two-hit shutout while Huntyr Ava went 2-for-2 with four RBIs as part of a 10-hit attack by BYU (20-9, 3-0 WCC).

Korth (12-2) started in the circle and threw four innings, only allowing a single to Ashley Trierweiler and Cameron McGinnis in the first and third innings.  The only other Bronco to reach base was on a walk issued to Bailey McLaughlin.

In the third, Ava took Sage Hager (8-4) deep with a runner to get BYU on the board.

An inning later the Cougars sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs on six hits for an 8-0 lead.  The first eight batters all reached base on either a walk or a single, including a 2-RBI variety by Ava.
