NOTES

Santa Clara.....  

  • Plays Nevada in a doubleheader on Wednesday and opens West Coast Conference play with a three-game series against BYU starting on Friday.
  • The games against Nevada was added to the schedule last week.  
  • Has three players that have been named West Coast Conference Player of the Week this season.  Ashley Trierweiler is the latest recipient getting tabbed for it on Monday, following Emma Bickford in March and Lauren LaHood in February.  
  • Has won 10 of the last 13 games but has only played two games since March 15.  
  • Was scheduled to play five games at a tournament in Idaho State during the weekend of March 17-19 but it was canceled due to extended winter conditions in Pocatello, Idaho.
  • Has a 10-5 record at home.  
  • Has a slashline of .308/.405/.440 with 171 runs scored (5.7 runs per game)
  • The 19 home runs hit this season is 11 more than they hit all last season.  It is the most home runs in a season since hitting 19 in 2016.  
  • Ashley Trierweiler leads the team in hitting with a .529 batting average, a .638 on-base percentage and an .885 slugging percentage.  She also leads the team in hits (46), doubles (8), runs (38), home runs (7), walks (24), and stolen bases (13).  She also leads the West Coast Conference in all mentioned categories.  
    • Trierweiler currently has a 20-game hitting streak and has successfully reached base in 24-straight games.
  • Sammy Needham has successfully reached base in 26 of the last 27 games. Her 24-game streak was snapped against Dartmouth (March 15).  
  • In the circle, Santa Clara has a 3.85 ERA.  
  • Hannah Edwards leads the team with a 2.88 ERA while Sage Hager tops the team with seven wins.
  • Sage Hager has won six-straight games.    

LEAGUE LEADERS (as of April 3)

  • Treierweiler (.529) and Needham (.377) are first and third in the West Coast Conference in hitting.  Trierweiler is second in the nation in hitting behind Wichita State's Sydney McKinney (.549).  
  • Trierweiler (seven) and Morgan Salmon (five) are first and tied for third in the WCC in home runs. 
  • Five Broncos occupy the top five of the six RBI producers in the WCC - 1. Morgan Salmon (25 RBIs), 2. Trierweiler (24), 4. Sammy Needham (20) and T5. Emma Bickford (19) and Lauren LaHood (19)
  • Trierweiler (13 SBs), Bailey McLaughlin (9) and Lauren LaHood (8) are first, fourth and fifth respectively in stolen bases.
  • Bickford is the toughest batter to strikeout in the WCC, fanning once every 27.3 at-bats.  (three strikeouts in 82 at-bats).  
  • Sage Hager is second in the WCC in wins with seven.
  • Edwards is fourth in the conference in ERA with 2.88.

WCC Preseason Poll / Coaching Staff

  • SCU, under fourth-year head coach Gina Carbonatto, enters the season picked to finish fourth in the West Coast Conference as voted on by the six conference head coaches. 
  • Last season, the Broncos finished third with a 7-8 conference record, the second highest conference victory total since 2006.  The 21-30 overall record was the highest win total since also the 2006 campaign when they went 24-34.
    • Carbonatto has served as the assistant coach for Great Britain's Under-22 women's softball team since 2018.
    • Last summer Carbonatto coached Great Britain's U-22 that competed in the European Under-22 Women's Fastpitch Championship in Kunovice, Czech Republic.
    • Bronco players Cameron McGinnis and Morgan Salmon were selected to play on Great Britain U-22 team earning two of the 13 roster spots.
  • On Carbonatto's SCU staff are pitching coach Jen Deering, who is also in her fourth season, hitting coach Kristi Villar who joined the Broncos from South Dakota State last July and graduate assistant Montana Dixon in her second season.  
  • For the upcoming season, Carbonatto will be the third base coach and Deering the first base coach.

SCHEDULE
Santa Clara was originally scheduled to play a total of 53 games this spring including 25 home games and face two school that qualified for the 2022 NCAA Tournament.  With the recent schedule updates, they will now play 49 total games.

PARKING
For weekday games, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to the start of the first game.  Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive. During the weekend, campus parking facilities are free (except for permit required locations).  Fans should utilize the main parking structure if the Leavey lot is full.
