Volleyball Wins In Three At St. Louis To Wrap Up 4-0 Weekend

Santa Clara won 3-0 at Saint Louis Monday night to wrap up a 4-0 swing through the Midwest in three days.  The Broncos defeated Saint Louis 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20.  They return to California to play North Carolina and Utah on Friday and then host-UC Davis on Saturday.

"We won four games in three days to start the season two time zones away. I am proud of the way we conducted ourselves on and off the court the entire trip.  We went to the Arch in Saint Louis this morning and the team had a blast. It was such a great bonding experience," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  

Santa Clara hit .217 with 45 kills (19e, 120 att.).  The Broncos collected 44 assists, zero aces (11 service errors), 50 digs and eight team blocks.  Santa Clara hit .184 in game one, .195 in game two and .268 in game three.

Saint Louis hit .038 with 26 kills (22e, 104 att.).  They collected 24 assists, 47 digs, six team blocks, six aces and six service aces.  The Billikens hit .097 in game one, -.030 in game three and .050 in game three.

"I am really pleased with the load and the weight that Kat and Tay are carrying right now.  I am very pleased with the passing tandem of Kat, Taylor and Katy," said Wallace.  "Taylor is working really hard and I am really impressed with how she has matured and is working to get better every game.  Katy is continuing play really well."

Katherine Douglas hit .222 with 11 kills (5e, 27 att.).  Taylor Milton (.227, 9 kills, 4e, 22att.) and Megan Anders (.292, 9 kills, 2 e, 24 att.) scored nine kills each.  Running the 6-2 again offensively, Alyssa Anderson collected 27 assists and 12 digs.  Chelsea Heier had 12 assists and three digs.  Lacey Maas led the team with five blocks assists.  Katy Schatzman collected 21 digs and five assists. The MVP of the SIUE tournament over the weekend, Schatzman is averaging 5.5 digs per set.

"Lacey did a really good job off the bench," said Wallace.  "Alyssa also worked hard and set a nice match."

"We have a day off tomorrow as we travel back and then we are back at it on Wednesday, traveling to Davis on Thursday," said Wallace.  "This will be a tough weekend for us, but I know the team is looking forward to the challenge."
