Santa Clara fell 3-0 Thursday night to No. 25 Saint Mary's.  Set scores were 15-25, 20-25 and 23-25.  Santa Clara is 16-8 and 5-4 in the WCC. Saint Mary's is 12-9 and 7-3 in the WCC.  Santa Clara travels to No. 14 San Diego for a 1 pm match on Saturday.

"Saint Mary's played a great match tonight," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace. "They took it took us and we never recovered. We played better in the third set, but even at the end we weren't truly trusting in where we were. We have to move on from this match and continue to get better starting tomorrow. We will put up a better fight on Saturday at San Diego."

Santa Clara was led by Taylor Milton's 11 kills, hitting .259 (4 e, 27 att.).  She also collected 10 digs.  Haley Cameron also played well, hitting .636 with seven kills (0 e, 11 att.).  Cameron had a block solo and a block assist.  Megan Anders had seven kills and Lexi Williamson scored six.  Alyssa Anderson collected 13 assists and three digs.  Chelsea Heier had 15 assists and 11 digs. 

Saint Mary's was led by nine kills by Jordan Shaw.  Lauren Corp, Gabby Jolly and Samantha Tinsely had eight kills each. 

Santa Clara hit .153 with 36 kills (19 e, 111 att.).  The Broncos collected 33 digs, three service aces, five service errors, 43 digs and four team blocks.  Saint Mary's hit .340 with 44 kills (10 e, 100 att.).  The Gaels collected 41 digs, six service aces, eight service errors, 46 digs and four team blocks. 

The teams started the first set a little shaky, tying it up twice.  SMC went up 7-3 on Bronco errors.  Timeout Broncos.  Saint Mary's scored three to go up 10-3 before a service error gave the Broncos a side out.  Trading points, Saint Mary's scored a couple more to go up 12-5 before Cameron dumped it past the Broncos.  An error by the Gaels gave SCU a couple points, 13-7 SMC.  After a SMC sideout, Anders crushed it to the back row.  Corp answered and a Bronco blocking error made it 16-8 Gaels.  Williamson's kill stopped the run and an ace by Williamson made it 16-10.  Trading points, Anders knocked it off the block.   Down 19-12, SCU called for time.  SMC scored four of the next five to go up 23-13.  A kill by Milton stopped the run, but the Gaels answered.  Cameron's kill gave the Broncos the sideout again.  A kill by Shaw gave SMC the set, 25-15.  SCU hit .094 with 10 kills (7 e, 32 att.). SMC hit .452 with 16 kills (2 e, 31 att.).  Corp and Tinsley both had four kills each for SMC. Anders had three kills for SCU.

The teams traded kills to start set two with Anders and Milton both collecting kills off the Gaels block.  SMC took a 5-2 lead before a service error.  A kill by Anders and a team block by Cameron made it 6-5 SMC.  The Gaels rallied for four straight, including an ace.  After a Bronco timeout the Gaels scored one more before a Cameron kill gave SCU the sideout.  An SMC kill gave the Gaels the ball, up 12-6.  Trading points, SCU scored on kill by Lommori and two more kills by Milton, 13-9 SMC.  A Bronco service error followed a back-court kill by Cameron.  Saint Mary's scored a couple before Williamson split the middle, 16-11 SMC.  SCU laced together a couple points before a kill by Tinsley gave SMC a sideout, up 18-14.  Anders flew up and crushed it to the back row for a sideout and Jolley returned the favor, 19-15 SMC.  A Lommori-Anders team block was followed by a couple Bronco errors.  SCU whistled for time, down 21-16.  SMC scored three of the next four points to go up 24-17.  A Milton kill gave SCU the sideout.   Anders smacked it down first and then an ace by Anderson made it 24-20 SMC.  A kill by Corp gave SMC the second set 25-20.  SCU hit .250 with 13 kills (4 e, 36 att.).  SMC hit .303 with 15 kills (5 e, 33 att.). 

Saint Mary's scored three of the first four points of the third set before Williamson crushed it between the block.  Saint Mary's collected three more to go up 6-2.  Trading points, SMC got the serve back up 7-3 on a kill off the block.  Santa Clara scored on kills by Milton and Lommori.  A hitting error by Shaw, a Lommori ace and Cameron gave the Broncos their first lead of the match, 9-8.  A kill by Reininger tied it up again, but a kill by Williamson and Milton's ninth of the match made it 11-9 SCU.  SMC scored four of the next five to take a 14-12 lead and the Broncos called for time.  Two SMC service errors were sandwiched between a Jolly kill.  A kill by Tinsley off the block made it 16-14 SMC.  Milton's kill and an error by Tinsley gave SCU a 17-16 lead.  A service error tied it up 17-17 before Cameron's kill to the side gave SCU the 18-17 lead.  A long rally ended in a kill by SMC but their serve was long and then SCU picked up a team block to go up 20-18.  Trading kills, Milton crushed it, 21-19 SCU.  A couple Saint Mary's kills tied it up 21-21.  A kill in the back row by Kristina Graven was matched by a crushing kill by Williamson off an SMC chest.  The Broncos were whistled in the net, but Lommori's kill was money.  The Broncos served it out of bounds and finished the set with an error, 25-23 Gaels.  SCU hit .116 with 13 kills (8 e, 43 att.). SMC hit .278 with 13 kills (3 e, 36 att.).
