Volleyball Crushes Brown in Three; Three Broncos Hit .444 Or Better

Santa Clara won 3-0 over Brown Saturday morning in its third match of the Fullerton Classic.  Santa Clara will turn around in a couple hours to play its fourth match in 26 hours at host Cal State Fullerton.  Set scores were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-21.  Santa Clara is now 9-4 and Brown is 3-5.

"Danielle Rottman came in and played a lot and had a good outing. We were able to get the ball to Kat in certain situations for success.  The other middles played really. It was a good match for us because we won and were are able to work on a lot of things," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "We have Cal State Fullerton in a couple hours for our last match of the weekend and the team is looking forward to playing them.  We are getting better every set and that's what is important right now heading into league play next weekend." 

Santa Clara hit .405 with 45 kills (11 e, 84 att.) vs. Brown. The Broncos collected 44 assists, 10 service aces, eight service errors, 33 digs and five team blocks.  Brown hit .244 with 32 kills (12 e, 82 att.).  They had 29 assists, one ace, six service errors, 22 digs and three team blocks.

Santa Clara was led by Taylor Milton, who hit .667 with 13 kills (1 e, 18 att.).  Katherine Douglas hit .500 with eight kills (2 e, 12 att.) and 12 digs.  Haley Cameron hit .444 with 10 kills (2 e, 18 att.).  Megan Anders hit .375 with eight kills (2 e, 16 att.).  Alyssa Anderson collected 17 assists, five digs and two aces.  Chelsea Heier had 19 assists, five digs and two aces.

Brown was led by Maddie Lord, who hit .409 with 11 kills.

Late Friday the Broncos fell 3-1 to Oregon State, who came in with a victory over then-No. 2 Penn State last weekend.  Set scores were 21-25, 25-18, 20-25 and 19-25.  Oregon State is 8-2.

"We took awhile to get into the match vs. Oregon State. It was our second match in six hours and Oregon State's first," added Wallace. "Oregon State is a very good team.  We played well as time went on in the match and we are in really good shape right now – mentally and emotionally we were a little fatigued from winning the first match 3-2 vs. another really good team in San Diego State."

 The Broncos hit .229 with 59 kills (26 e, 144 att.).  They collected 55 assists, two service aces, five service errors, 48 digs and 4.5 team blocks.  Oregon State hit .299 with 55 kills (17 e, 127 att.).  They collected 49 assists, five service aces, five service errors, 52 digs and 17.5 team blocks.

Anders hit .500 with 20 kills (4 e, 32 att.).  Milton hit .280 with 10 kills (3 e, 25 att.).   Anderson had 27 assists and Heier had 22.
