Volleyball Falls In Fifth Set At No. 24 Pepperdine

Santa Clara, playing its fourth straight West Coast Conference match on the road, fell in five at No. 24 Pepperdine on Saturday.  Santa Clara returns home next week to host Sac State on Tuesday night at 6 pm and then No. 16 BYU next Saturday at 1 pm.  Set scores at Pepperdine were 16-25, 25-19, 16-25, 25-17 and 10-15.  Santa Clara is now 14-7 and 4-3 in WCC play.  Pepperdine is 14-7 and 3-4 in WCC play.

"I thought we fought hard tonight," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace. "We battled back from a tough game one to win game two. Game three was back and forth for awhile but we got down for awhile.  We played better in game four than we did in game two. Taylor Milton had a great night in terms of kills, passing and defense. She almost willed us to win the match. It was good to see Haley Cameron contribute offensively and defensively.  Both setters competed well for us and kept the team running.  Game five we got off to a bad start, but we kept believing and trying. I am really proud of our girls and our effort. All the teams in our league are really tough this year.  Home court advantage is important for us right now and have to make sure we compete well next weekend."

Santa Clara was led by Taylor Milton who collected 19 kills, hitting .326.  Kayla Lommori had 12 kills and Lexi Williamson collected 11.  Haley Cameron had eight kills and hit .412.  Alyssa Anderson had 24 assists and six digs.  Chelsea Heier had 26 assists and eight digs, scoring an ace.

Santa Clara hit .193 with 61 kills (27 e, 176 att.). They collected 57 assists, three aces, 10 service errors, 77 digs and 11 team blocks (1 solo, 20 block assists).

Pepperdine was led by Jazmine Orozco, who had 19 kills, hitting .250.  Taylor Racich had 10 kills as did Katie Messing.
