Continuing West Coast Conference play, Santa Clara will host USF on Thursday night at 6 pm in the Leavey Center and then travel to Provo, Utah to face No. 14 BYU on Saturday at 12 pm. Prior to the match with the Dons, the Santa Clara volleyball team will join the women's golf team and the women's and men's basketball teams in presenting a check to UCSF for Pancreatic Cancer research. Santa Clara enters the match with USF at 19-8 and 8-4 in league play.  They are currently tied for third place with Saint Mary's. 

USF enters the match on Thursday night at 14-11 and 5-7 in WCC play.  BYU is 23-2 and 11-2 in the WCC and are off on Thursday before hosting the Broncos on Senior Day.  Santa Clara defeated USF 3-2 last Thursday and the Broncos handed the Cougar's just their second loss of the season on Oct. 20 with a 3-2 victory.

"There are some challenges in playing a team one week apart," said Wallace of playing USF again. "It's been fun for our coaching staff to see how they defended us. Knowing that a lot has not changed from a week ago, I am sure each of us will have a small wrinkle in our game plan going into Thursday night."

This week the Broncos are working on trying to get cleaner on their side of the net. "We are trying to hit at a higher efficiency," said Wallace. "We have had more attacking errors and service errors in the past couple of weeks so we are trying to find a way to cut down on the errors and increase our efficiency."

This year the Broncos are taking it one match at time, not putting more emphasis on any one match over another.  "If we play Bronco volleyball and trust and believe, we should be in every match.  As long as we stay aggressive, I like our chances," added Wallace.

Wallace said the Broncos were successful last week against USF "because we served very tough and made them very predictable, which allowed us to block and play very good floor defense."  USF has two very good outside hitters that can take over any match, at anytime.  "The key will be containing them and slowing them up," said Wallace. 

In Santa Clara's 3-2 win over then-No. 14 BYU, Wallace was thrilled with how well the team played together. "We played with great spirit and competed all the way through the match," said Wallace. "On Saturday in Provo, we will have to have the same team effort in order to upset them again.   The last time I thought we blocked well. We will have to block well and continue to serve extremely tough."

Wallace said that BYU has the most talent of any team in the WCC. "They have two Player of the Year candidates in Jennifer Hamson and Alexa Gray.  Last time we were able to slow one of them up.  But obviously it's been tough to beat them especially in Provo – they are very good at home."
