A Pair of Broncos Captures Men’s Tennis Tournament Championships in Europe

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Jesus Tapiador Barajas and Arthur Neuhaus of Santa Clara men's tennis each captured a tournament championship in their home countries over the summer.

Tapiador Barajas whose senior season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic won the Torneo Nacional Alacant 2020 tournament in Alicante, Spain when he defeated Carles Gimenez 6-4, 6-3 in the finals.  En route to the finals, the Madrid, Spain native took care of Daniel Morozov, the No. 200 ITF Junior world ranked player.

Neuhaus, who completed his sophomore campaign on the Mission Campus, was crowned the Zofingen Open Champion in Switzerland with his 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jonas Shaer in the finals. Schaer is ranked No. 18 in Switzerland's national rankings along with a Universal Tennis Rating of 13.35. In the semifinal match, Neuhaus came back from a set down to beat University of Indianapolis player Dario Huber, 4-6, 6-4, 13-11.
