BYU Defeats Men’s Tennis in Conference Opener

PROVO, Utah – BYU defeated Santa Clara men's tennis 5-2 in the West Coast Conference opener on Saturday.

Playing on the Outdoor Tennis Courts, the Cougars (5-4, 1-0 WCC) picked up the doubles point when Ben Gajardo and Jack Barnett beat Mann Shah and Dominic Barretto, 6-4, on court one.

BYU continued their momentum in singles play winning the first three matches while dropping just six games total to clinch the match victory.  Sean Hill defeated Shah, who moved atop the lineup this week, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch the team win.  

Santa Clara (2-2, 0-1) got on the board when Arthur Neuhaus came through with a straight-set win over Dominik Jakovlijevic 6-2, 6-4 on court five.

Guillaume Dalmasso continued his impressive start to his Bronco career when the freshman beat Mateo Melendez 7-6, 6-4 for his fourth-straight singles win on the season, this time coming on court three.  Dalmasso's previous wins came on court four.
