Men’s Tennis Falls at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Gary Vardanyan clinched the match in Cal Poly's 5-2 victory over Santa Clara men's tennis on Saturday.

Vardanyan defeated Nick Cmager 6-4, 6-2 on court five to give the Mustangs a 4-1 advantage in the team score.  The two schools played out all the matches that included a three set win by Mann Shah 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) to give the Broncos (1-1) its second team point.

Cal Poly (4-4) took the doubles point winning the first two matches.  Antoine Noel and Noah Berry clinched over Guillaume Dalmasso and Arthur Neuhaus, 6-4, on court two.

Dalmasso knotted the team score at 1-all when he took down Joe Leather 6-1, 6-3 on court four before the Mustangs reeled off three straight singles wins.

Fernando Fonseca beat Santiago Hinojosa 6-4, 6-3 on court six to put the Mustangs up 2-1, then Alex Stater handled Dominic Barretto on court one, 6-4, 6-3 before Vardanyan's clincher.

Santa Clara (1-1) will hit the road again on Sunday to face Sacramento State.  First serve is at 1 p.m.
