SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team opened its spring season with rounds of 308 and 306 for second place following the first day of competition at the eight-team Matador Invitational, played at the 5,808-yard, par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club.
The Broncos' two round total of 614 (+38) has them five shots behind Sacramento State and four shots ahead of tournament host Cal State Northridge entering Tuesday's final round.
Santa Clara has three players in the top 10 after the first day with Ashley Noda in a tie for fourth at 6-over 150 following rounds of 73 and 77. Noda is tied with a pair of golfers three shots behind co-leaders Jamie Huo of Seattle and Kimberly Santiago of USC, who both ended the day at 3-over 147.
Noda led the field with nine birdies and was one of three golfers to record an eagle in the first day of competition.
Rounds of 77 and 74 left Kristin Le tied for seventh with a 151 total while Annie Freman tied for ninth with a 152 total (75-77).
Monique Riley carded a second round 78 following an 83 to move up five spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 29th place with a 161 total. Meghan Shain scored rounds of 82 and 83 to tie for 37th at 165.
