SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's golf team tied for the lowest score in today's final round of the Matador Invitational, unfortunately the team they tied was second-round leader Sacramento State and the Broncos failed to gain ground claiming second place in their first competition of the spring season.

Windy conditions at the 5,808-yard, par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club led to elevated final round scores with Santa Clara, Sacramento State and Morehead State each scoring 320 today. The Broncos finished at 934, five shots behind the Hornets, adding another runner-up finish to the three they earned during the fall.

Sophomore Annie Freman had the second-lowest score with today's final round 76 vaulting four spots up the leaderboard to finish in a tie for fifth-place at 12-over 228, four shots behind medalist Astha Mandan of Sacramento State and one shot behind a trio of runner-up finishers.

It was the second top-5 finish of the 2014-15 season for Freman and the 14th time in her career she placed in the top-10.

After missing a majority of the fall season junior Ashley Noda had her best career finish taking eighth-place with a 230 (+14) total. Noda had a tournament-high 11 birdies and scored an eagle in Monday's first round to match her career-low score of 73.

Freshman Kristin Le was the third Bronco to place in the top 14. She ended the tournament tied for 14th-place at 236 (+20) after a final round 85 left her two shots out of a top-10 finish.

The Broncos have a few weeks to prepare for their next event. They will compete in the Juli Inkster invitational hosted by San Jose State at the Almaden Golf and Country Club starting Feb. 23.
