Women’s Golf Ties For Third At Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. – A final round 303 moved the Santa Clara women's golf team into a third place tie at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, completed today at the 6,143-yard, par-72 Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose.

The Broncos rebounded from a first-round 317 that saw them eighth in the 10-team field after the opening 18 holes with consecutive rounds of 303 to tie BYU for third at 923 (+59). San Jose State captured the team title shooting a final round 288 to finish at 897, two strokes better than second-round leader Fresno State.

Freshman Kristin Le led the Broncos with her third career top 10 finish after a 13-over 229 (76-77-76) left her tied for 10th. The tournament leader in par-3 scoring, Le covered the 12 three-stroke holes at 1-under.

Meghan Shain and Monique Riley each placed in the top 20 with Shain finishing tied for 12th with at 230 (81-73-76) and Riley, with a team-low round of 74 today, finishing tied for 17th at 231 (83-74-74). Riley scored eight birdies, the second-highest total in the 54-player field.

Lowering her score in every round, junior Ashley Noda carded a final-round 77 to finish at 236 (80-79-77) and tied for 29th.

The Broncos jump right back on the course this weekend when they travel to Arizona to compete in the Red Rocks Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona.
