SEDONA, Ariz. – The first round of the Red Rocks Invitational was moved up one day with inclement weather in the forecast and a quick turnaround for the Santa Clara women's golf team became even quicker after competing in the Juli Inkster Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
The Broncos departed for Arizona Thursday night and teed off Friday afternoon at the 5,579-yard, par-72 Oakcreek Country Club scoring a 307 to tie for sixth place.
The Broncos are tied with Seattle University at +19, seven shots behind tournament host Northern Arizona. Sacramento State and Cal Poly are tied for second place one shot back.
Saturday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. PT.
Junior Meghan Shain led Santa Clara with a 2-over 74 to tie for 11th while freshman Kristin Le tied for 29th with a 76, five shots behind leader Charlotte Jaengkit of Grand Canyon.
Sophomore Annie Freman and juniors Monique Riley and Ashley Noda all finished within one shot of each other. Freman shot a 78, Riley 79 and Noda 80.
Competing as an individual, Taylor Gentzkow scored a first round 86.
