SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In their first game at the newly renovated Stevens Stadium, Santa Clara women's soccer topped Oklahoma by a final of 2-0. The win puts the Broncos at 4-2-0 on the season while the Sooners are 3-3-0.

Santa Clara returns to the field Sun., Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. vs. Penn State.

"Our goal is to get two goals a game and we got two in the first half," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "Oklahoma is a really well coached team that's tough to break down. They're probably one of the best defensive teams in the country. We're always happy to get a shutout. We had a number of different players contribute tonight. This was also the most minutes we've played Jordan Jesolva in her comeback from an ACL injury. Now we get ready for a good Penn State team."

Santa Clara outshot Oklahoma 10-7 and shots on goal were 5-2 in favor of Santa Clara. Grace Cutler and Dani Weatherholt led the Bronco offense with a goal each. Andi Tostanoski picked up two saves in net.

In the 32nd minute Santa Clara had the first good chance to score. Jordan Jesolva blasted a shot from outside the 18 that was saved and kicked out for a corner. After the corner the ball bounced around in front of the goal and Weatherholt was able to get it just past the line for a goal.

In the 45th minute the Broncos added a second goal. A pass to Grace Cutler looked like it was just off. Cutler tracked it down in the left side of the box and took a shot with her left foot and kept it inside the left post to make the score 2-0

Santa Clara outshot Oklahoma 6-2 in the first half and shots on goal were 3-1 in favor of the Broncos.

Both goalkeepers made nice saves in the second half but neither team was able to find the back of the net and the Broncos held on for the 2-0 win.
