SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On senior day with plenty of alums in the building, No. 20 Santa Clara women's soccer tied No. 5 BYU by a final of 0-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Broncos hit the crossbar late in the first overtime but neither team was able to break through.

Megan Crosson led the Broncos (11-5-1, 4-1-1 WCC) with two shots on goal. Andi Tostanoski picked up four saves. Four Cougars (12-2-2, 4-1-1 WCC) each had a shot on goal. Rachel Boaz made four saves.

"We're disappointed with a tie today because we felt like we were the better team and the team on the front foot," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith. "We didn't get as many shots on goal as we would have liked and the ones that did get on goal were all at the near post, which we don't like to see. We're disappointed with our finishing today but thought our play was very good against a top-10 team in BYU. It's at least some consolation that we outplayed them but we feel like we let one slip away. I'm proud of the four seniors and they all played well. We had a great effort on senior day by the entire team. Our alums that are back on campus will be proud of the effort, even though they also would have liked a win."

Santa Clara had a great chance in the 30th minute off a nice play from Jenna Roering. The BYU defender tried to body Roering off from the ball before it went over the end line but she was able to get around her and send a pass into the middle. Jordan Jesolva one-timed a shot but it was blocked to keep the game scoreless.

Just before halftime Santa Clara had another great chance to score but a beautiful save by Boaz kept the score 0-all. Julie Vass tapped a through ball to Roering in the box but Boaz was able to close out and make a great save.

In the 100th minute Jenna Holtz nearly ended the game. She took a shot from the top of the box that hit the cross bar and bounced out before BYU was able to clear.

Tostanoski came up with yet another big time save in the 105th minute that kept the game going. A BYU shut from far outside the penalty box was placed perfectly but the Bronco keeper punched it over the crossbar.

Santa Clara returns to the field Friday, Oct. 30 at 12 p.m. at Saint Mary's.
