Softball Can't Come Back in Weekend Finale

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the final day of the Santa Clara Invitational, Santa Clara softball lost to Nevada 10-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Micaela Vierra (3-6) walked the first two batters of the game and both came around to score. Before coming to bat, the Broncos found themselves down 3-0.

Vierra lasted just 1.1 innings in the start. She allowed five runs on four hits with a pair of walks.

Nevada (13-2) scored three runs in each of the first three innings and added another in the fifth..

The Wolfpack got three RBI from Jasmine Jenkins and two more from Melissa Arriaga. Kwynn Warner scored four runs to go with two hits and an RBI.

Chase Redington (7-0) tossed a 5.0-inning complete game. She allowed one unearned run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Santa Clara (4-10) scored its run in the bottom of the fifth. Chiara Biagini doubled with one out and a single by Taylor Bojorquez brought her in with two down.

Ellie Fisher also added two walks for the Bronco offense.

Santa Clara returns to action Friday at 11:30 a.m. at UC Riverside in the Highlander Classic.
