STOCKTON, Calif. – Santa Clara softball clubbed three home runs en route to beating Pacific 8-1 on Monday evening in the rubber match of the opening West Coast Conference series.

The Broncos (7-30, 2-1 WCC) fell behind 1-0 after an inning but would score eight unanswered runs to take their second consecutive game from the Tigers.

"We had a fantastic team effort all weekend," said Santa Clara head coach Lisa Mize. "We got great outings from McCall [James] and Micaela [Vierra]. Our bats came alive this weekend, which is what we have needed. I'm very proud of our effort and focus in our conference-opening weekend."

Morgan Modesto hit the first home run of the game for the Broncos in the top of the third to give them a 2-1 lead they would never give back.

Gianetta France added a grand slam in the sixth and Justine Garner hit a two-run shot in the seventh.

Micaela Vierra (4-13) went the distance for Santa Clara while picking up the win. She allowed an unearned run on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Sara Anderson and Melanie Habib both managed a pair of hits off Vierra for Pacific (18-16, 1-2 WCC) with Anderson scoring the Tigers' lone run of the game.

Megan Walters (2-3) allowed seven runs, one earned, in 4 innings out of the bullpen to pick up the loss. She surrendered five hits.

Santa Clara returns to action tomorrow at Sacramento State at 4 p.m.
