Rebel Classic Tournament Central

LAS VEGAS – Santa Clara softball (5-19) fell to Wisconsin (12-11) 11-5 and Valparaiso (3-14) 10-0 in five innings Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Rebel Classic.

Game 1
Wisconsin would score seven times in the first three innings to set up a blowout but the Broncos would come back with four in the fourth to make it a game.

With two down and a man on third, Morgan Modesto doubled to left to bring in the first Santa Clara run of the game and start a string of four straight Broncos to reach base.

Kimberly Goulart followed with an RBI single up the middle after a walk to Jordan Dawkins and Casandra Padilla knocked in two more with a base hit.

The Badgers responded with four runs over the final three innings. The Broncos single run in the bottom of the seventh wasn't enough to mount any sort of comeback.

McCall James (2-9) started for the Broncos and went 6 2/3 innings. She allowed eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Padilla was 1-2 with a pair of RBIs and Goulart was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Mariah Watts (1-0) got the win in 5 innings out of the bullpen for Wisconsin. She allowed five runs on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Chloe Miller was 2-4 with two runs scored and four RBI while Kelsey Jenkins was 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Game 2
The Crusaders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning and held a 4-0 lead after two. They would score six more runs in the third to put the game out of reach.

James (2-10) started for Santa Clara and picked up the loss in 2 innings. She allowed four runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Anne Yates had the only Bronco hit of the game.

Taylor Weissenhofer (2-3) went the distance and allowed just one hit with 12 strikeouts.

Taylor Nadler led the Valparaiso offense and was 3-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Carly Trepanier added a home run and two RBIs as well.

The Crusaders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning and held a 4-0 lead after two. They would score six more runs in the third to put the game out of reach.

Santa Clara returns to action Friday at 1 p.m. vs. North Dakota and at 3 p.m. vs. Colgate in the Santa Clara Round Robin.
