Men’s Soccer Falls to Grand Canyon, 1-0 on Sunday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Bert Wilton scored the lone goal of the match in the 21st minute to give Grand Canyon a 1-0 win over Santa Clara men's soccer in a nonconference match on Sunday night at Stevens Stadium.

For the match, the Broncos (2-2) outshot the Lopes 11-8 including a pair of close chances in the first half when Julian Bravo's shots sailed just right of the goal.

Grand Canyon (2-1) took advantage of its first half opportunity when a ball that was served in was cleared centrally by the Broncos defense, landing on the feet of Wilton.  The sophomore forward blasted a shot from 25 yards in front of the goal past the diving Broncos goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho

"We got a chance to make the play on the ball that was served long and we were a little too high.  Grand Canyon got behind, picked up the second ball and had a good, unchallenged look," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.

Leading by a goal, the Lopes hunkered down in the second half with the Broncos' best opportunity coming in the 88th minute when Javier Ruiz Duran's shot from 10 yards out was saved by goalkeeper George Tasouris for his second and final save of the evening.

Santa Clara will look to close out its five-match homestand with a winning record when they host San Diego State on Saturday.
