Men's Soccer Concludes Homestand Against San Diego State on Saturday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer concludes its five-game homestand on Saturday when the Broncos host San Diego State at Stevens Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.  
 
The Broncos (2-2) split their weekend matches beating San Jose State last Friday, 5-1, before falling to Grand Canyon, 1-0 on Sunday and now sit with a 2-2 record on the homestand.  
 
THE AZTECS
San Diego State head coach Lev Kirshner is in his 20th year at the helm compiling a 140-169-55 record with three NCAA tournament appearances to his credit.  He returns 12 letterwinners including eight starters from a squad that finished 7-10-1 last season.  
 
The Aztecs (2-2) are led by senior captains Pablo Pelaez and Mac Clarke.  Pelaez, a midfielder, is a two-time captain and All-Pac-12 second team selection (in 2016 and 2018) who led the Aztecs in points (15) and goals (six) last season.  He once again is leading the team in both categories through four matches with three goals and eight points.  Clarke, defender, started in 17 matches during the 2018 campaign and leads the team in minutes played with 367 this season.  
 
Goalkeeper Max Watkin has started in three of the four matches this season with a 1.95 goals against average and 2-1 record.  
 
SDSU opened the season with a 3-2 loss to West Coast Conference's San Diego before taking the next two matches against UNLV and Belmont.  They last played on Sunday, losing to Detroit Mercy, 3-2.  
 
SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 12-7-2 all-time against San Diego State, having last played in the 2018 season opener where the Broncos prevailed 2-0 behind two second-half goals by Andres Jimenez and Javier Ruiz Duran.

THE BRONCOS
 
The 2019 campaign marks the 18th season at the helm for Santa Clara head coach Cam Rast who leads a squad that returns 23 players including three All-West Coast Conference honorees from a team that finished 5-10-2.  
 
Nineteen of the returners saw action last season with 13 of them appearing in double digit matches to account for 80 percent of its goals and all of its assists.  
 
Junior Javier Ruiz Duran led the team in goals (six) and assists (five) to earn All-WCC Second Team recognition along with senior Miles Robinson who scored four and assisted on three.  Sophomore Eduardo Lopez Perez tallied a pair of goals and was named to the WCC All-Freshman team. 
 
Redshirt junior Henning Jolivet brings the most experience between the woodwork playing in seven matches last season to finish with a 3-3-1 record and a 1.89 goals against average.  
 
 
Through four matches this season, the Broncos have outscored the opponents 8-3 with seven players scoring a goal, led by Sam Agosti's two.  The starting backline is comprised of three sophomores - Sakari Carter, Emil Christensen and Alejandro Perez - along with a freshman, Liam Anderson, who have helped hold the opposition to just three goals with freshman goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho starting in all matches.

All-West Coast Conference
• Robinson was named preseason All-WCC this season.  
• A trio of players - Ruiz Duran, Nate Shue and Terrell Smith - were named to the conference All-Freshmen Team in 2017.  
 
United Soccer Coaches All-West Region 
• At the end of last season, Javier Ruiz Duran was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region team.  
 
2019 Exhibition Matches
• Santa Clara lost its exhibition opener 3-2 against UC Davis and played to a 1-1 draw in the second match against Sacramento State.
• Three players scored in the exhibition matches: Javier Ruiz Duran and Presten Manthey against UC Davis and Alejandro Barajas against Sacramento State. 
• Freshman goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho played in 135 of 180 minutes including starting the Sacramento State game.  
 
Season Openers
 With the win against Holy Cross, Broncos head coach Cam Rast is now 10-8 including 5-4 at home in season openers.
 
Firsts
 Senior Sam Agosti and sophomore Martin Aasen tallied their first goals as a Bronco in the season opener (Aug. 30) against Holy Cross. 
 Senior Dylan Carrubba and redshirt sophomore Alejandro Barajas had their first career assists in the season opener.  
 Freshmen Guillem Badenes Mecho and Liam Anderson along with graduate student Hendrik Kuehn started in their Santa Clara debuts against Holy Cross. 
 Redshirt sophomore Tennyson Stevens and redshirt freshman Bishop Washington made their Bronco debuts coming off the bench in the season opener. 
• Badenes Mecho recorded his first career shutout against Holy Cross.  
• Freshman Damani Osei made his Bronco debut coming off the bench against Missouri State (Sept. 2).
• Redshirt freshman Presten Manthey made his first Bronco start against San Jose State (Sept. 6). 
• Manthey and senior Dylan Carrubba scored their first career goals against San Jose State (Sept. 6).

 Seven Broncos have scored a goal this season led by Sam Agosti with two.  
 Six Broncos have assists led by Julian Bravo, Presten Manthey and Alejandro Barajas with two each.  
 
Home, then away
 Santa Clara starts its season with a five-match homestand, followed by five straight matches on the road before starting West Coast Conference play at home.

MATCH PROMOTION
PARKING
For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot (see below for access), located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive. During the weekend, campus parking facilities are free (except for permit required locations). Click here for a campus map and parking restrictions. 

The construction of the Stephen C. and Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center has necessitated the closure of the main entrance (off Accolti Way) to the Leavey Center parking lot. Access is now ONLY directly from El Camino Real (Route 82). If you are traveling east on El Camino Real, the Leavey lot entrance will be approximately 150 yards on the right (enter through the black iron gate) after you pass the main campus entrance. If you are traveling west on El Camino, make a u-turn at the main campus entrance at Palm Drive/Railroad Ave and follow the same directions.
