Men's Soccer Falls to San Francisco on Sunday

SAN FRANCISCO – Nonso Adimabua scored a goal and assisted in another in San Francisco's 2-0 win over Santa Clara men's soccer in a West Coast Conference match on Sunday night.

Adimabua put the Dons (3-2, 2-0) on the board in the 51st minute when he took a pass from Kevyn Lo at the top of the 18 and slipped the ball past a diving Broncos goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho.

On the play, the ball got away from the Broncos at midfield and the Dons took advantage with a quick transition getting its players isolated with the backline before capitalizing on it.

Gabriel Bracken Serra added an insurance goal in the 70th minute.  Off a set piece, Adimabua won the initial cross in the air and Bracken Serra tracked it before heading it past Badenes Mecho.  It was the first goal given up off a set piece by the Broncos this season.

Santa Clara (0-3, 0-2) created more chances especially in the first half with a 6-to-3 shot advantage, but the difference was USF capitalizing on those chances in the second half.

"The team is playing hard and we are doing a decent job competing in the first half but in the second half, we are making decisions that's causing issues," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "We are causing our own issues whether it's missing a pass that we shouldn't make or not getting rid of the ball in a dangerous area.  We need to look at ourselves in those moments in order to get better.  But credit USF as they were good in moments of transition making a run at us."

Shortly after USF's second score, Dylan Bartlett had a golden opportunity to cut the Dons lead in half but his shot from close range was turned back by Dons goalkeeper Alejandro Munoz.

Oladayo Thomas had a game-high four shots with two of them on frame.
