Men's Soccer Picks Up Road Win at Portland on Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. – Santa Clara men's soccer went on the road and picked up a 2-0 win at Portland Saturday on the penultimate weekend of the regular season.

The Broncos (3-4, 3-3 WCC) made their chances count on the day, scoring on their only two shots on goal. They totaled six shots for the match. The defense also bowed its neck, withstanding 12 shots from the Pilots (3-3-2, 1-1-2).

The first goal of the day came in the early going when Javier Ruiz Duran followed a Portland foul with a strike from just outside the box on a free kick in the eighth minute.

It didn't take long for the Pilots to have a chance to tie the score. In the 22nd minute, Luke Hendel stepped up to the spot for a penalty kick but Andreu Cases Mundet dove to his right and stopped the shot to keep his team on top.

Cases Mundet ended the match with three saves.

In the 83rd, Santa Clara added an insurance goal. Ruiz Duran sent the ball to Oladayo Thomas who dribbled in from the left side of the field and beat Portland keeper Jacopo Viola far post.
