Broncos Third After 36 Holes At GCU Invitational

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Santa Clara women's golf started things off on the right foot at the GCU Invitational, carding a 36-hole total of 1-over 287-290--577. The Broncos are currently third in the 20-team field and just seven shots back from leader-GCU. 

Skyler May and Claire Choi both turned in impressive cards on the day and head into Tuesday's final round tied for third and sixth, respectively. May got the day started with a 3-under 69 in the first round, tallying four birdies in the round. She followed with 1-over 73 in round No. 2, and is currently just three strokes behind the tournament leader, UC Riverside's Tiffany Le (5-under 139). 

Choi also had a great day on the links, turning in a 1-over 73 in the first round before climbing 14 spots in the standings in the second round after posting a 2-under 70 that included three-straight birdies. She heads into tomorrow's round just one shot back from May at 1-under 73-70--143.

The remaining members of Santa Clara's lineup all check in in the top-32 of the 104-playerd field. Borina Sutikto is tied for 23rd at 3-over 73-74--147, Inara Sharma is a stroke behind at 4-over 75-73--148 and tied for 27th, and Lauren Shew is in a tie for 32nd 5-over 72-77--149. 

The Broncos will look to finish the GCU Invitational strong in tomorrow's final round. Santa Clara tees off at 8:00 a.m. PT. 

NOTES

  • Skyler May's opening round 69 is the lowest of her career. 
  • Claire Choi tied her career-low of 70 in the second round.
