Broncos Win Wyoming Cowgirl Classic; Choi Takes Medalist Honors

MARICOPA, Ariz. - It's been a long-time coming, and on Tuesday, Santa Clara women's golf finally did what they've come so close to achieving multiple times this season. The Broncos won the team title at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, holding off Long Beach State during the final round with 7-over 295 to capture their first tournament win since 2018. Senior Claire Choi won medalist honors, finishing 3-under 70-71-72--213 to capture her first collegiate individual title.

Santa Clara began the day with a nine-stroke lead over Long Beach State, but saw that low slowly shrink throughout the course of the afternoon as the Beach turned in their lowest round of the tournament with a 1-over 289. However, thanks to brilliant play from Choi, and freshmen Skyler May and Borina Sutikto, the Broncos were able to hold on and capture the title. The win is Santa Clara's 24th tournament title in program history and first since the 2018 Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, Wash.

Prior to today's victory, the Broncos had posted three runner-up finishes this season.

Choi is Santa Clara's first individual tournament champion since Kristin Le won the 2017 Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. The Honululu product led the field over all three rounds and was one of just two in the field of 117 that finished sub-par for the tournament. Her 54-hole total of 213 bested her previous career-low of 214.

Sutikto had a great finish on Tuesday, turning in 1-under 71 to jump up 15 spots in the final standings to tie for sixth. It is her third top-10 finish of the season. Fellow freshman, Skyler May, was unable to sustain the success she had on the previous day in which she finished the first two rounds in second place, but still notched the best finish of young collegiate career with a tie for 13th at 4-over 73-69-78--220.

Lauren Shew (76--230) tied for 56th and Inara Sharma (76--233) tied for 69th while individual Naomi Wong finished 116th.
