SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Grand Canyon Lopes (3-5) got the best of Santa Clara women's tennis on Saturday as they swiftly won 4-0 after winning three-straight singles matches.
The Broncos (0-5) were off to a good start after the duo of Dasee Carter and Varya Zlotnik won the team's first doubles contention 6-2 on court three. The matches played on courts one and two would not prove to be as successful for Santa Clara as JennaMarie Gordon and Kacey Feng lost 6-1 on court one and Giulia Hayer and Velizara Fileva closely contended a 7-5 loss on court two.
The first loss of the singles matches for the Broncos came on court two as Fileva fell to Santa Strombacha 6-2, 6-2. GCU's Madeline Lamoreaux then got the better of Zlotnik as their match on court five went 6-4, 6-3. Court six gave way to the match clincher as Feng lost to Valentina Del Marco 6-2, 6-4.
Gordon, Carter, and Hayer's singles matches all showed signs of hope for a win, notably Hayer's match as she won three games in a row to tie up her second set. Unfortunately, all three games were abandoned as the match was clinched before they could finish.
NEXT UP
The Broncos will continue their stretch of home matches as Cal Poly comes to Degheri Tenner Center on Friday. Play will commence in the morning at 11 a.m.
