SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A shorthanded Santa Clara women's tennis team lost 4-0 to Saint Mary's in a West Coast Conference match on Friday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.
Santa Clara (0-10, 0-2 WCC) played a tightly contested doubles action splitting the first two matches with JennaMarie Gordon and Velizara Fileva dispatching Iman Kahn and Stefanie Silva 6-4. However, Saint Mary's (5-5, 1-0 WCC) secured the doubles point when Olivia Rook and TianYu Dong took care of Dasee Carter and Kacey Feng 6-4 on court three.
In singles play, the Broncos were unable to field a player on court six so Madison Weekley won by forfeit to give the Gaels the first singles point. Stefanie Silva won the next singles point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kacey Feng on court five, followed by Jordan Harris' 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Gordon atop the lineup to clinch the match.
In the three unfinished contests, the Broncos were ahead on two of them, winning the first set and was even in the other with a set apiece.
