Four Women’s Tennis Student-Athletes Garner WCC All-Academic Honors

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference recognized four members of the Santa Clara women's tennis team with All-Academic honors on Tuesday.  Varya Zlotnik was named to the WCC All-Academic Team and three others – JennaMarie Gordon, Giulia Hayer and Finley Kalinic – were named as honorable mention.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while being a starter or important reserve (participate in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests) with legitimate athletic credentials and have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution.

Zlotnik, a senior, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.962 to earn one of the 12 spots on the All-Academic Team.  The psychology major was in the singles lineup 12 times during the dual season, playing at No. 4 once, at No. 5 six times and No. 6 five times.  In doubles she was in the lineup 10 times playing either at No. 2 or 3.

Gordon has a GPA of 3.827 in management.  During the 2022-23 season, the senior had an overall singles record of 10-11 including 5-7 in dual matches, playing mostly atop the lineup.  In doubles, she posted an overall record of 7-13 and tied for the team lead in both singles and double wins in dual matches.

Hayer is majoring in psychology with a 3.757 GPA.  The senior played at No. 1 doubles in 14 matches and played at No. 2 for one match.  She was in the singles starting lineup for 13 matches playing anywhere from No. 3 to 5.

Kalinic has a 3.553 GPA while majoring in psychology.  She was in the singles lineup 14 times - three times at No. 1, nine times at No. 2 and twice at No. 3.  And in doubles, the senior played mostly atop the lineup.
