SANTA CLARA, Calif.. - In the home finale of the 2023 spring season, three Santa Clara women's tennis team seniors were recognized but the Broncos lost 4-2 to Cal Poly in a nonconference match on Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center.
Dasee Carter, JennaMarie Gordon and Giulia Hayer were honored in a ceremony prior to the match.
Each of the seniors played in the doubles portion with Gordon teaming up with Velizara Fileva to defeat the Mustangs' duo of Kim Bhunu and Kennedy Buntrock 6-3 to split the first two doubles matches. However, Cal Poly (8-7) took the doubles point in a close match when Melissa LaMette and Sarah MacCallum beat Carter and Kacey Feng 7-5.
Cal Poly went up 3-0 with singles victories on courts two and four before Santa Clara (0-14) came back to to get within a point at 3-2.
On court three, Velizara Fileva took care of Delanie Dunkle 6-4, 6-3 to get the Broncos on the board. Gordon followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Kim Bhunu atop the lineup for the second SCU point.
Buntrock clinched the match on court five in a three-set triumph over Varya Zlotnik 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
