SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer rising junior Edson Cardona was invited to the El Salvador U23 National Team in preparation for the Olympics in 2016. The team takes on Honduras on Tues., June 23 in a friendly.

"The chance to play for any national team at any level is an honor beyond belief," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "We've been fortunate to have some very talented players come through Santa Clara University and play for their respective national teams. We are thrilled for Edson that he is recognized as someone that has the talent to help a national team perform at a top level. We couldn't be happier for Edson."

For the Broncos in 2014 Cardona tied for second on the team with three goals. He added one assist for seven points and scored two game-winners for Santa Clara.
