Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – Michael Diaz
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the fourth member of the 2020 recruiting class, Michael Diaz, a standout two-sport athlete from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona.

Diaz starred as a left-handed hitting corner outfielder and ranked as one of the top 50 prep football players in the state where he played outside linebacker and safety for the aptly named Broncos.  The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder was an all-region selection in both sports and is one of only a handful of students at Brophy from the class of 2020 to letter three times in two different sports.

"I am extremely excited to be attending Santa Clara University.   The coaching staff is exactly what I was looking for in a baseball program and I fell in love with the campus.  Santa Clara was a perfect combination of faith, family, baseball, and academics," said Diaz.

In his varsity career, Diaz batted .344 with a .438 on-base percentage over 45 games.  In football, where he was recruited by Boise State and Cal, he had 161 career tackles including 14.5 tackles for loss and is third all-time on the Brophy College Prep record books with five interceptions in a season.

"Michael is a two-sport star from the prestigious Brophy College Preparatory.  He is an elite linebacker on the football field and a premier left-handed hitter who plays both corner outfield positions," said Broncos head coach Rusty Filter.  "His bat should provide plenty of power in the heart of the Bronco lineup over the next couple of years.  We are excited to welcome Michael to the Bronco Family."

Our next future Bronco, Dalton Durossette, will be announced the week of Dec. 16.
