Baseball Set to Host CSU Bakersfield for a Four-Game Series Starting Friday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara baseball faces CSU Bakersfield in a four-game weekend series at home starting on Friday. They will play a game each on Friday and Sunday to sandwich a doubleheader on Saturday. The second game of the doubleheader will start approximately 30 minutes after the end of the first game.
 
The Broncos won their midweek game against Cal Poly on Tuesday, 8-5, to start their five-game homestand utilizing a season-high seven pitchers with Ryan McCarthy, Coleman Brigman and Matt Jew combining to drive in seven runs, all on extra base hits.
 
SANTA CLARA NOTES
• Santa Clara is averaging 5.6 runs per game (while allowing 4.3), hitting .266 and rank second in the West Coast Conference with 129 hits (9.2 hits per game).
• Three hitters are batting over .300, led by Ryan McCarthy's .333 average.
Jake MacNichols leads the team with six home runs and 17 RBIs and six other players have homered.
• Freshman centerfielder Coleman Brigman has batted at leadoff since the second game of the season and safely reached base in 12 straight games while leading the team in stolen bases with five.
• Seventeen pitchers have seen action on the mound, holding the opposition to a .218 batting average while posting a 3.75 ERA.
• Seven different hurlers have started in the first 14 games with Matthew McGarry and Freddie Erlandson having the longest outings to start the game with five innings (McGarry against Georgia on Feb. 21 and Erlandson against Sacramento State on Feb. 29). Travis Howard threw a Bronco pitching staff high 5.2 innings in relief against Georgia on Feb. 22. • Howard leads the staff in wins (three), innings pitched (14.2) and strikeouts (21) while walking just one. The versatile right-hander has two starts in five appearances.
Ethan Heinrich has a team-high three saves.
• Defensively, the Broncos have committed 13 errors on the season for a .975 fielding percentage.

ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD
Head coach Jeremy Beard is in his fourth season as the head coach at CSU Bakersfield compiling a 82-101 record including 5-6 this spring.  The Roadrunners return six starting position players and one member of the starting rotation from a team that posted a 24-35 record in 2019.
 
This spring, 10 of their first 11 games were played at home with the only road game at LMU in mid-February, losing 7-1.
 
The Roadrunners are coming off a four-game series against Holy Cross winning one game. Last season's top returning hitter Tyler Jorgensen is hitting .318 in 2020, close to the .323 average he posted last year. Damian Henderson leads the team with a .381 batting average along with a gaudy .500 on-base percentage. He also leads the team in home runs, belting the only two round trippers on the team, and RBIs (10). As a team, the Roadrunners are hitting .254.
 
On the mound, the team has a 3.21 ERA with the opposition batting .253. Four of the five pitchers who have started on the bump have an ERA under 3.21. Jaykob Acosta (0.93 ERA, 9.2 IP, two starts), Ethan Skuija (2.12 ERA, 17 IP, three starts), Davonte Butler (2.30 ERA, 15.2 IP, three starts), and Aaron Charles (3.21 ERA, 14 IP, two starts).
 
Defensively, they have committed 15 errors with a .965 fielding percentage.

SCHEDULE
The 2020 schedule features games against four teams (No. 17 Stanford, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Arizona State and LMU) that qualified for the 2019 NCAA Baseball.  Among the 55 regular-season games, 27 will be played at home in Stephen Schott Stadium and 28 on the road.  2020 schedule release.

Group discounts are also available through our ticket office sales and service consultants. Gates to Stephen Schott Stadium, as well as its ticket booth, are open one hour prior to the start of the game.
 
GAMEDAY PROMOTIONS
Check out this year's gameday promotions here, including honoring our military members and first responders a every Saturday home games.  Military and first responders will receive complimentary admission for themselves and three guests.  Show your workd ID at the Stephen Schott Stadium box office on gameday to receive your tickets.  
PARKING
Parking is available in the Guadalupe lot, adjacent to 455 El Camino Real.  The Guadalupe lot is reserved beginning 60 minutes before game time through the end of the event for free parking.  Baseball parking is no longer allowed in the lot behind Schott Stadium's left field wall.  Overflow parking is available in the Leavey Center lot.  Spectators that plan to arrive more than an hour prior to game time on weekdays are encouraged to purchase a parking permit for the Leavey lot.  All SCU lot parking is free on weekends.
